WGG News

Those April showers spilled over to May. Now, record rainfall in June has caused tough conditions that have challenged our schedules, our stamina and the waterproof-ness of our golf shoes. We, hardy (and hearty!) women golfers were undaunted and slogged through with some amazing results.

Dellwood hosted Stillwater Country Club and Mendakota Country Club for the Tri Club on Wednesday, June 4th. This was our second year of participation in this event where the low 10 net scores count for each club. Thirteen players from Mendakota, 20 from Stillwater and 17 from Dellwood vied for the prestigious crystal trophy. Pressure was on us because we had home course advantage and because we took home the trophy last year. It was very close but, we did it! A repeat! Scores were: Dellwood 758, Mendakota 762 and Stillwater 765. Many thanks to Patti Brekke for chairing this event! Next year: at Mendakota (three-peat?)

Thirty-four members and their guests played in the 9-Hole mini Guest Day on June 10th. Scramble was the format and results were so close that the second through fourth place
winners were determined by scorecard play-offs.

1st Roxanne Nelson, Jeannie Smith, Cathy Poechmann, Jan Christopherson 36
2nd Connie Bossard, Kim Venuta, Barb Klein, Kathy Morrissey 37*
3rd Holly Struss, Sandy Oleson, Pam Quarve, Cheri Frandrup 37*
4th Wendy Benson, Darcy Zonino, Carol Osojnicki 37*

This month, the Travelling Team played at North Oaks on June 13th. Our team of Kathleen Callahan, Karen Krebsbach, Sandy Martin, Dori Martinez, Roxanne Nelson and Cathy Poechmann were stellar in their play, scoring 161 Stableford Points, led by Sandy Martin’s brilliant play, scoring 38 points! We have crept up to club-leading North Oaks and we are now only two points behind. Standings are: North Oaks – 305; Dellwood – 303; Town and Country – 291; Midland Hills – 157.

Please contact Chair, Dori Martinez, if you are interested in playing. Next up: Midland Hills on July 18th. Go Dellwood!

Looking Ahead…
Plan on playing in the 9-Hole Guest Day on July 8th and in the 18-Hole Guest day on July 24th. The theme for the 9-Hole event is “Las Vegas Night” and the theme for the 18 –Hole event is “Taste of Tuscany”. These are the premier women’s guest events of the summer. The Pro Shop staff always runs a nice tournament, Tracy always plans the best parties, Chef Brandon always creates gourmet-delicious meals and David and his staff always provides exceptional service. See Tracy’s column for more info.

The Championship season continues with the Club Championship on July 19-20 and the Senior Club Championship August 9th. A brand new event for the WGG will make its debut on July 31st. The Solheim Cup is a 27-Hole event consisting of 2 teams playing three 9-Hole matches, Best Ball, Alternate Shot and Singles Match Play. The Pro Shop will draw up the teams.
