WGG Update

It is hard to believe that 2015 is more than half over. What an outstanding year it is proving to be at Dellwood! Our club has risen to be one of the premier clubs in the Twin Cities with exceptional new amenities and a great course; this combined with a amazingly beautiful summer has created a marvelous combination! Our strong faction of women golfers is out there playing the course and enjoying the club at every opportunity.

July 14th we hosted our “Red, White & Blue” 9-hole Guest Day. We had a beautiful evening with approximately 50 members and guests participating. A special thank you to Cathy Poechmann, Roxanne Nelson, and Judy Kishel for putting together a spectacular event! Congratulations to our winners!

1st: Roxanne Nelson, Deb Falkowski,
Cathy Poechmann, & Diane Grufman

2nd: Judy Kishel, Jaime Warndahl,
Lindsay Miller & Amanda Boberg

3rd: Rochelle Jensen, Roxie Rasmussen,
Holly Struss & Mary Burchell

A new event this year for our 9-hole league is our “Race for the Dellwood Cup”. The scoring for the Dellwood Cup is a combination of points earned for participation and placing in our Tuesday night events. As of July 21st, the top three ladies in the current standings are:
1st Beth Pilacinski
2nd Dori Martinez
3rd Roxanne Nelson

Please check your calendars. August offers several fun & competitive events including:
-Women’s Senior Championship August 1st.
-The 18-hole Formal Guest Day, August 6th
-Our theme is “Margaritaville” and the day will include golf, dinner and fabulous prizes!
-The Traveling Team will play August 14th at Town & Country
-August 29th will be the Derby

In closing, I want to share some fun facts regarding women & golf. I recently I read an article by the National Golf Foundation that women golfers are the fastest growing segment of new golfers. There are more than 6 million female golfers in the United States. Women have had an impact on the game from the start:
1550 Mary Queen of Scotts commissioned the construction of St. Andrews, considered the true origin of the sport & the first golf course in Scotland.
1867 St. Andrews formed “The Ladies Club”, the first women’s golf organization.
1893 Issette Miller invented the first golf handicap system.

You go girls and have a great August! I hope to see you on the course!
