Course Renovations

Our Advisory Committee was formed this year to serve in place of the previous Board we had as a member owned club. The committee has been very helpful and involved in providing member feedback and recommendations to the operating decisions of the Club. The committee members serve three year terms and each year we elect a new President and replace members whose terms expire. Walter Jungbauer will take over as President effective January 1. New committee members will be confirmed during the November Advisory Committee as well as the President–Elect for 2014. Those announcements will be made in the December newsletter.

As we enter into the always hectic holiday time of the year keep in mind that your Club can provide everything you need for holiday entertaining. Our staff can come to your home and cater your event with all of the great food Dellwood has to offer. Our staff is also preparing complete Thanksgiving  dinners to-go. One call to the office to place your order will ensure the easiest, tastiest and most relaxing Thanksgiving Day possible. We also provide food-to-go Wednesday through Saturday. Food on the go really can be easy, delicious and nutritious. Just call and let us know what you want and we’ll have it ready for you. Just another benefit of your membership!

It appears that we will be working on bunkers for the remainder of the year but the course will remain open until there is snow on the ground. Thirteen bunkers are completed including white sand, five bunkers need sand only and seven bunkers still need the concrete liner and sand.

The entire course will be open going forward, but there will be one or two holes with work going on at any given time. If a hole is designated as being closed you must walk to the next hole – please do not hit any shots on holes that have been closed for play. We may also have temporary greens if there is work being done on a green-side bunker.

Cart paths are complete and we have applied hydro-seed (the green covering along all cart paths) to restore grass along the edges of the paths. Please stay off of the hydro-seeded areas for the remainder of the year to ensure they grow-in effectively next spring. We want our course to be perfect next year!! FYI: It takes 23 minutes to drive the entire 4.8 miles.

Sod was installed last week to cover the new mounds around the course. The ground was very soft when the sod was laid and will likely be soft for the remainder of the year. So, please stay off the new sod to prevent damage. we want our course to be in top shape next spring. Thanks for your consideration on protecting the many investments being made on our golf course.

Demolition of the pool area will begin sometime during the week of November 4th. When that work begins the member parking lot will be closed until the work is completed next spring. We are on schedule for the clubhouse. The lower member level will close January 1st. The main banquet level will close January 27th. The clubhouse will remain closed until mid-April. We won’t know until mid-February the exact date that the clubhouse will re-open. Renovation of the   building exterior, parking lot and tennis area is targeted to begin mid-April, depending upon weather and will continue through August.

Renovation will begin on the tennis courts as soon as possible in the spring so that we can conduct a full season of tennis activities in 2014. We will maintain three courts in the future. We are getting bids to determine if our budget allows for clay courts. If we cannot afford clay courts we will re-surface three of the existing courts, replace the nets, set up one court for junior / beginner lessons, replace the wind screens, add a bounce-back board, purchase a ball machine and rebuild the tennis shack. We are also getting bids to add two paddle tennis courts in the future.

Dellwood Country Club is moving steadily toward our mission to provide a unique membership experience with exceptional service levels in a casual and elegant environment. Member feedback suggests that we have made very good progress so far. We will continually add member amenities and services to enhance the experience and make Dellwood a truly unique and special place to be a member. Thanks to all of you who have been on the journey with us and advocates of our Club. If you know others who may be interested in joining one of the best and fastest growing clubs in Minnesota please let them know that our initiation fees will double to $5,000 effective January 1, 2014. The time to join is now! Even with all of the improvements and investments in the club there will be no increase in dues for new golf  members in 2014. Additionally, new members pay no dues until April of 2014. There is significant benefit in joining before the end of the year.

We currently have 450 total memberships with 253 golf memberships. I expect we will be close to 260 golf memberships by the end of 2013. There are  fewer than 75 golf memberships available and I expect they will fill quickly once all improvements have been completed in 2014.

Also, please empty out your locker and pick up your golf bags by the end of the year due to construction, we cannot do winter storage.
