Work continues on the Pool complex and Utility Building despite the “polar vortex” winter we are having. You can watch the progress on our Facebook page where we are regularly posting pictures and updates.
I have been asked by several members about the fence along highway 96. It is not yet completed and will extend the length of the parking lot and 16 feet beyond the entrance by the tennis courts. It was not completed this fall because there is work to do in the spring to create a retention pond for parking lot water run-off. Once the pond has been dug out the fence will be completed (along with the entry columns by the main entrance and tennis court entrance to the parking lot).
What should we expect when the course re-opens this spring? Glad you asked. Eric will staff up as quickly as possible once the snow melts to get the course cleaned up and address any winter turf damage. The edges of the cart paths were seeded just prior to the first snow fall. It will take a couple months for it to germinate and fill in. We will re-seed any bare spots as we identify them. We expect that the use of carts will be restricted to cart paths only until the ground firms up and the course dries out. During the months of April and May Eric’s crew will repair any areas in the fairways that incur turf damage and re-sod where necessary. The entire course will be open once we thaw and dry out, but there may be areas that we rope off to allow grass to grow and/or fill in. All bunkers should be open for play! Let’s hope for an early and warm spring so that the newly sodded and seeded areas fill in quickly. You will also see new white flags on the greens (easier to see!).
The PGA show was last week and we spent a considerable amount of time researching golf simulators as well as club fitting systems and launch monitors to enhance the teaching experience this summer. Our golf professionals are ready to help you take your game to the next level! The projected opening for the golf training and exercise facility is October.
For the next couple months all golf members will see a Golf Services fee on their statement. As a reminder, the annual Golf Services fee is billed in thirds and shows up on statements in February, March and April. The fee includes: one locker, locker room services, one club storage, one MGA handicap service, range fee, Mill River fee and hole-in-one insurance.
In February the clubhouse will be open for Valentine’s Day on the 14th. Otherwise we will be closed from February 3rd until we re-open on March 5th. During the month of February we will be busy implementing new operating software for the Club. In March you will be able to see your spending, check your charges and pay your statement online through our website.
