After much anticipation and rain delays, the 18th hole will open for regulation play tomorrow. There will still be some roped off areas and carts need to stay on the path until all of the sod has fully rooted. Any ball coming to rest in a roped off (newly sodded) area should be played as ground under repair and dropped at the nearest point of relief no closer to the hole. Enjoy our enhanced signature hole – the best finishing hole in the state!
The sod projects on #1 and #14 have also been finished as well as the new plantings on the wall around the pond on #18. Now the focus for the course narrows a bit with the top priority being general maintenance – keeping the roughs consistent, the grass around the ponds weed whipped, the intermediate rough cut and the greens in great shape. Green speeds will start to increase this week, so be prepared! We hope you enjoy your golf course and have fun playing it.
We are still dealing with a few wet areas on the course that are roped off to prevent carts from driving through them (area between #2 and #11, the right side of #8 and the area short of the water on #1 and #10). These areas are to be played as ground under repair until the ropes are taken down.
The remaining golf course projects for this year include: repairing the water fall that flows from the 12th pond to the pond on #3; installing cart paths throughout the course and replacing all bunkers with white sand. The cart paths and bunker projects are still planned to start in late September and will necessitate closing half of the course for a few days as the paths and bunkers are installed on each nine.
Our Club Championship will be held on July 26th and 27th. The format is a little different this year and gives everyone, regardless of what flight you are in, a chance to win! For the men, all flights will play from the silver tees. There will be a winner for each flight. Additionally, anyone within six shots (gross score) of the Championship flight leader will qualify for the additional nine holes on Saturday and our Club Championship. If you weren’t planning to play, this is the year to get back into the competition and compete.
Also this month – Tennis Margarita Mixer on July 11th and swim team pancake breakfast at 9:00 am on July 11th. Poolapalooza – live music, dancing, drink specials, great food (including the ice cream man!) and kid’s activities – all at the pool on July 21st at 4:30.
Lastly – we are working hard to make your life simpler and more enjoyable. Membership at Dellwood Country Club has certain unique perks that set us apart from other Clubs. Did you know that you can get your car washed while you are playing golf on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday? Just let the pro shop know what kind of wash you want, leave your keys and enjoy your round of golf. Your car will be clean and spiffy when you are ready to leave!
We are adding another amenity for our members. Starting July 14 you can reserve our pontoon boat on White Bear Lake for your private use. What could be better than playing golf in the morning and then spending the afternoon / evening on White Bear Lake with your family? The boat is a 22 foot Premier Pontoon that seats 12 and has a 40 horse engine. It is available every day from 9am – 9pm. Reservations should be made at least 24 hours in advance (we will do our best to accommodate same day requests, but cannot guarantee them). Reservations should be made by calling the Dellwood office. The cost is $35 per hour or $200 for a full day and includes gas. We can also have any food and beverages desired on the boat so there is nothing you need to do except call to reserve the boat, show up and enjoy the day! You will be met at the boat and provided operating instructions and life jackets. For an additional fee you can also include a kayak or arrange for private ski and wake boarding lessons. Charges will be billed directly to your Dellwood account. Your Club is committed to providing you and your family with great recreational activities and will arrange everything for you. No need to own a boat. We have you covered!
As always, please let me know if there is anything I can do to make your experience at Dellwood more enjoyable.
