October – maybe the final month of golf and tennis for most members. I hope you get a chance to come out and enjoy another great Minnesota fall season on the course or the courts. As we begin to spend more time inside we fortunately have numerous events, activities and amenities for you to enjoy over the next six months. October is also the month when food minimums change to two-month cycles (spend $100 every two months) and the Grill closes on Tuesdays for the season effective October 24th.
Fairway aeration and sanding begins October 3rd and will take about four to five days to complete. Sanding the fairways will impact play for about 10 days. However. Sanding makes the fairways even better for the other 25 weeks of the season and it has been working very well since we started three years ago. Each application of sand costs about $16,000. It is a significant investment in our golf course and we think it is well worth it to continue improving the quality and conditions of our course. To minimize the impact for those still playing golf we suggest and encourage you to move your ball from the fairway to the intermediate rough so that you have a clean lie to play from.
The driving range season will be extended to October 29th. There was a previous announcement that the range would close on the 16th because grass will no longer germinate and grow to repair the divots. However, a member suggested that we keep the range open and hit off of the mats. Great idea and thank you! So that we may start hitting off of grass earlier in the season next year we will begin hitting off of mats only starting October 3rd. This will allow all of the current divot damage to start healing this year.
Plan on joining us on October 18th for a Member Social starting at 7:00pm in the Ballroom. Earlier in the evening we will host a new member orientation for the 20 plus new golf members joining our Club this fall. The Member Social will be a great party held in the Ballroom. Music, games, adult beverages, food and socializing with friends – another great evening at your Club!
