Women’s Golf Updates

The rising crest of the golf season in Minnesota is marked by the first day of summer.  We hosted the first round of the Traveling Team on Friday, June 14TH (after being washed out on May 17th) and, despite the best of intentions, came in last. Captain Betsy Larey will, however, have us ready to play next month at North Oaks!  On a winning note, earlier in the month, on June 5TH, in our first year in the Tri Club Event, Dellwood women came in first over Mendakota Country Club and Stillwater Country Club, who hosted the event. Despite the rain soaked day, we won, and we have the trophy to prove it. Thank you, Captain Patti Brekke for leading us to victory!

The rains may fall and the waters rise, but the players and their guests still enjoyed the 9-Hole and 18-Hole Mini Guest Days. Many thanks to Chair Paula Chesley for making all of the arrangements. The results are:

9-Hole Mini Guest day – June 11th – Scramble

First Place (35):  Betsy Larey, Meredith Joly, Liz Olson, Jean Rohrer

Second Place (Tie – 36): Judy Kishel, Lynn Crowther, Jo Ellen Saylor, Cindy Sutter

Wendy Benson, Carol Osojnicki, Darcy Zonino, Barb Countryman

18-Hole Mini Guest Day – June 20th – Best Net 2 Balls of the Foursome

First Place (131):  Judy Kishel, Sharon Dolan, Kathy Hanousek, Marie Tufford

Second Place (133):  Wendy Benson, Anita Kerfeld, Pat Stewart, Patti Stuhlaman

On Thursday, July 11TH, Dellwood Country Club will host The Women’s Mercedes Championship.  This event is open to all women in the St Paul area. As members, we should take advantage of the home field and sign up.  After all, the first prize is a trip to Hawaii, and since it is an all women’s event, anything is possible.

Both Singles and Doubles Match Play have begun and Chair Sandy Martin has requested of all of the players to please make every effort to meet the posted bracket deadlines.

Calendar Change! Please note that the dates have been changed for three of the Women’s events.  The new dates are:

  • Women’s Club Championship: Friday, July 26TH and Saturday, July 27th, tee times

  • 18- Hole Formal Guest Day: August 1ST, 1:30 shotgun

  • Women’s Senior Club Championship: Saturday, August 10TH, tee times

These events, hopefully, will not be affected by the weather.  Dellwood Country Club and 250,000 people in the metro area, including myself, lost power this week after one of the violent rain storms.  But, this is only the first day of summer.
